March art exhibit

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Farnham Galleries will feature Over 30: Portraits of Unmarried Women from Tuesday, March 1 through Thursday, March 31.

In conjunction with the exhibit, Farnham Galleries’ Coffee and Live Music event will feature singer/songwriter BeJae Fleming on Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Farnham Galleries.

The Over 30 exhibit has been recognized nationwide in several published books and the photographed women have been featured in numerous magazine articles. Barbara Colombo, the photographer of Over 30 created the show based on her own reflections on the expectations of women from popular culture. The women featured in the black and white photographs are a small sample of the 19 million adult women who remain unmarried by choice or circumstance in the United States.

Over 30 is based on Colombo’s assessment of her own life as a woman over 30 in modern American society.  Her photographs depict women who have overcome the expectations of society and have sought to find contentment in their lives through their own means.

Farnham Galleries are located on the third floor of Mary Berry Hall on North C Street just north of Clinton Avenue in Indianola, Iowa.  Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday or by appointment at 515.961.1761.
