JANUARY ART EXHIBIT IN FARNHAM GALLERIES
Farnham Galleries will feature the graphic design work of Ab Gratama from Saturday, Jan. 1 through Sunday, Jan. 30.
Gratama will be on campus on Jan. 27 for a closing reception at the Galleries at 4:30 p.m. and a slide presentation in the Brenton Student Center beginning at 7 p.m.
Gratama studied at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, and The Netherlands, completing his diploma for Graphic and Typographic Design and Photography in 1962. He has a lengthy resume that lists a variety of academic and professional positions, exhibitions, awards and commissioned graphic design projects including book covers, catalogues, posters, annual reports and corporate identity programs. Gratama has work experience in a number of countries including: The Netherlands, Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, Thailand, Suriname and Venezuela. As a visual communications consultant with the Dutch Government, USAID and the United Nations Agencies, he conducted workshops for national health and agricultural communication campaigns.
Gratama is currently a professor of graphic design at the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History, a position he has held since 1987. He is a partner in Gratama LaVine Design Studio in Iowa City.
