Marcus DeLoach, baritone, will appear in recital with pianist Thomas Bagwell at Simpson on Friday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. in the Great Hall. The pair will give a Voice Masterclass on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 10:30 a.m. in Amy Robertson Music Building’s Lekberg Hall.
During the recital, DeLoach will sing America songs featuring works by Barger, Ives, and Blitzstein.
DeLoach is an artist with the New York City Opera and appeared with the Des Moines Metro Opera in its 2004 season. A sought-after recitalist, he won first place in London’s Wigmore Hall International Song Competition.
He holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School and he has attended The Britten-Pears School, New England Conservatory, and Music Academy of the West. The Opera Index, Albanese-Puccini, Rosa Ponselle, Liederkranz, and George London foundation, the Young Concert Artists International, the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and the Metropolitan Opera National Council have all honored him for his outstanding achievements and artistry.
Bagwell is among New York’s finest accompanists, an assistant conductor at the Met for some seasons and is on the staff of the Santa Fe Opera.
The recital is free and open to the public.
