The Rev. Malcolm Himschoot, minister of outreach for the Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis, will talk about vocation identity and gender through his journey as a transgender minister. Sponsored by the Lilly Initiative for Vocational Exploration, the talk, titled “Call Me Malcolm,” is at 7 p.m. on Feb. 5 in the Pioneer Conference Room in McNeill Hall.
One of only a few openly transgender clergy members in the United States, Himschoot is also featured in a film called “Call Me Malcolm” documenting his transition from Miriam to Malcolm. The 28-year-old Colorado native is ordained by the United Church of Christ, and will conclude his talk with a question and answer session.
Also that day at 10:30 a.m. Himschoot will preach at the Crossroads United Church of Christ, a congregation that meets in Dirlam Lounge of Smith Chapel on the Simpson campus.
Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, call the Lilly Initiative at (515) 961-1210.
