Multimedia exhibit opens in Farnham Galleries Feb. 3

Digital photography, paintings and a video installation by husband and wife artists Jody Boyer and Russ Nordman will fill Farnham Galleries at Simpson College on Feb. 3-28.

The exhibit will feature caustic paintings with digital prints created by Boyer, in addition to a multi-channel video installation that is a collaborative effort between Boyer and Nordman. The couple was inspired to use a camera, microphone and computer to create the video piece based on the short essay “Primal Sound” written by Rainer Maria Rilke in 1919.

Nordman, a native of Charles City, Iowa, has his master of fine arts from the University of Iowa, and is currently an assistant professor of intermedia and digital art at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. He has studied with internationally recognized artist Hans Breder, and was once a studio manager assisting with numerous works and exhibitions for the Tate Gallery, the Van Abbe Museum in the Netherlands and the American Center in Paris.

Boyer, a native of Portland, Ore., has a bachelor of arts from Reed College and a master of arts in intermedia and video art from the University of Iowa. Her work has been displayed throughout the country, including at the Des Moines Art Center, Womanmade Gallery in Chicago and a traveling exhibit.

The gallery, located in Mary Berry Hall, is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment by calling (515) 961-1761.
