Faculty organist in recital

Mark Babcock, adjunct organ professor at Simpson, with guest and affiliate faculty member, Susan Odem on oboe and English horn, will perform at Simpson on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. in Smith Chapel.

Babcock received a bachelor’s degree in music education from Central College and holds a master’s degree in choral conducting and organ performance from Westminster Choir College. 

Babcock is active in the church music and music education fields. He serves as the Dean of the Central Iowa Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, is the organist and director of fine arts at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines, assists with Cantemus, one of the Heartland Youth Choirs and provides consultation, festival leadership and music training in a variety of settings.

Currently, Babcock teaches at Central College. His duties at Central include private voice and organ instruction; courses in church music, music education and music theory; and choral direction and accompanying.

Babcock’s performance is free and open to the public.
