Simpson College to host Young Writers Conference
More than 150 sixth- through ninth-graders from throughout central Iowa will converge on the Simpson College campus on April 28 for “Writing Up a Storm,” the Simpson College Young Writers Conference.
Students from Indianola, Urbandale, Knoxville, Winterset and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn middle schools as well as Southeast Polk and Southeast Warren junior high schools will join the conference to attend workshops with professional writers, such as professors, reporters, poets and songwriters. Students attending the conference will share their own work during sharing sessions and the pieces will also be published in an anthology and on the Simpson Web site.
Sponsored by Simpson College and the Iowa Arts Council, the day-long conference begins with a keynote address and ends with a grand finale by Poetry Alive!, a poetry performance group from North Carolina. For more information, call (515) 961-1600.
