Maryknoll priest Father Roy Bourgeois will deliver “Democracy, Human Rights and Torture” at 7 p.m. on April 10 in Camp Lounge of the Brenton Student Center.
Bourgeois grew up in Louisiana and intended to get rich in the oil fields, but enlisted in the Navy when the Vietnam War hit. After being wounded in a bombing raid that killed his friends, he received the Purple Heart and decided to enter the seminary of the Maryknoll Missionary. He was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1972.
Bourgeois has lead hunger strikes, demonstrated on the steps of the Capitol, and traveled around the country educating the public and Congress on the implications of the U.S. military policy through his work with the School of the America’s Watch.
The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, call (515) 961-1600.
