Dunn Library
Faculty Resources
Faculty Development Resources: Research by Topic - Faculty Development provides access to the Faculty Development Collection, databases, online journals, and websites.
New Collaboration: Dunn Library has established a consulting librarians program to strengthen the connections between departmental offerings and library resources.
Acquisitions:
Ordering books: Each department has a budget for the fiscal year beginning June 1. Book order cards may be requested from the library. Print known information on the order card, including the ISBN, have it signed by your department chair and return it to the library. If you need an item ordered immediately, write "rush" on the top of the card. CHOICE cards may be sent back as order cards; put signatures at the top of the card. We do not usually order textbooks or multiple copies.
Serials: All recommendations for additions or deletions of periodicals, newspapers, and annuals should be forwarded to the college librarian with the department chair's approval. Decisions are made by mid-August for the following calendar year. Since serials commit funds for several years, selection depends on several factors: Is it available online? Is it indexed in a resource available at Dunn Library? Is it useful to undergraduates? An annual departmental review of Journals at Dunn is a good starting point for recommending additions and deletions. Department chairs receive a listing of periodicals ordered by their department with the cost of each journal every spring.
Videos/DVDs: Videos/DVDs may be purchased from book funds. Items over $99 may be paid from a video fund; submit your request on a Video/DVD Purchase Form .
New Titles @Dunn: Monthly listing of new library materials, listed in Dewey call number order. Faculty will also receive this list via email with selectors noted.
Checking out materials: Present your Simpson ID each time you check out materials. Books may be checked out for six months; all items must be returned for renewal. A reminder of all outstanding material will be sent. Most reference items may be checked out for brief periods and periodicals for one week.
Display case: The wall case is available for displays of student works or special projects. Contact the college librarian.
Instructional services: Class demonstrations on effective searching in our online catalog or any of our other databases are
available
through the Instruction Librarian.
Media Services: This
department
provides audiovisual equipment for the academic needs of the college. Instruction is available for faculty with multimedia projectors, monitors and VCRs, DVD or CD players, video and digital cameras/camcorders, media blackbox and other equipment. All classrooms have some media equipment; check
here
for a room-by-room listing.
Equipment from Media Services will be delivered if requested at least one day in advance. Requests with less notice will be honored only if equipment is available, and requesters may need to pick up equipment from the office. Students who wish to reserve media equipment must fill out this
Student Use of Audio-visual Equipment on Campus
Form.
Media Services does not have production facilities or staff. Contact Sheila Allbee if you have questions about videotaping or tape duplication. Unlicensed off-the-air recording can be requested for immediate and one time only classroom use.
Photocopying: Faculty may use the copier by using their departmental code (five digit number) prior to making copies.
Reserves: Items to be read for specific classes may be put on reserve (under your name and class) at the circulation desk. Items for use by a few students or independent study should not be put on reserve. Fill out a faculty reserve form available at the circulation desk; also available
online
. Library materials (books, photocopies of articles, videos/DVDs, CDs) may be put on reserve along with your personal items for a semester. You may choose from the following reserve statuses for each item: two hour closed (library use only); two hour open (overnight use); three day (open).
Copyright laws
prohibit excessive use of photocopies for reserve readings. A maximum of three copies per article will be put on reserve for large classes; usually one copy will suffice. Please allow two working days after submitting your form with the materials before requesting students to use these items. Reserve items are listed as such in the online catalog.
Videos/DVDs: We have videotapes and DVDs for classroom use. They are listed in the online catalog and are located in the reference area. Faculty may check out videos/DVDs for a two week period. Faculty may also put videos/DVDs on reserve for viewing in the library.
Video borrowing requests should be sent to
Interlibrary Loan
one month before the requested viewing date to ensure availability. Items obtained from a few sources are free; rental costs for items from university or commercial vendors will be charged to the requesting department's supply lines.
