MUSIC DATABASES

  • OXFORD MUSIC ONLINE - Oxford Music Online includes Grove Music Online, The Oxford Companion to Music, and The Oxford Dictionary of Music. Articles from specialist dictionaries such as The New Grove Dictionary of Opera and The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz.
  • CLASSICAL MUSIC LIBRARY - The world's largest multi-label database of classical music recordings for listening and learning in libraries, including a growing collection of 50,000-plus tracks for listening and searching supplemented by extensive reference materials.  Search both Classical Music Library and Classical Scores Library with Music Online .
  • CLASSICAL SCORES LIBRARY - Collection includes works spanning time periods from the Renaissance to the 21st century. Coverage of score types is comprehensive, with full scores, study scores, piano and vocal scores, and piano reductions. Search both Classical Music Library and Classical Scores Library with Music Online .
  • CDs AT DUNN LIBRARY - To search for specific CDs at Dunn Library use the Advanced Keyword search and limit your search by Dunn location to CDs or CD sets.
  • CDs AT MUSIC DEPARTMENT LISTENING ROOM - Search by composer, title, conductor, etc., or use * for a browsable listing. Materials are available in the Kinney-Lindstrom Listening Room in the basement of Smith Chapel.

LIBRARY DATABASES

  • LIBRARY CATALOG - To search for books on a particular topic, use a Subject or a Keyword Search. To search for books at other libraries use the links on the BOOKS & BOOK REVIEWS web page.
  • EBSCOHOST - Search multiple databases (together or separately) to access full-text periodicals, newspapers and reference tools. Academic Search Premier and Business Search Premier index peer-reviewed scholarly journals in a variety of subject areas. Other databases focus on specific areas such as health and education.
  • Project MUSE - Project MUSE - Basic College Collection is a unique collaboration providing full-text, user-friendly online access to 192 humanities, arts, and social sciences journals.
  • LexisNexis ACADEMIC - Comprehensive research database providing full-text access to various databases, including current news, business information, Hoover’s company records, company directories, federal and state laws, legal cases, medical and references.
  • OXFORD LANGUAGE DICTIONARIES ONLINE (OLDO) - More than just a dictionary, over 4 million words, phrases and translations in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Chinese. Features native speaker audio pronunciation.
  • ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ONLINE - More than 72,000 encyclopedia articles on all subjects.

  • New Grove Dictionary of Jazz (R781.6503 N532) - A 3-vol. set, highlighting the elements, history and appeal of jazz.
  • New Grove Dictionary of Music & Musicians (R780.3 N532) - A 20-vol. set, the most comprehensive reference source on all areas of music. The current edition is shelved on behind the circulation desk on Permanent Reserve; the volumes of the earlier edition are located in reference.
  • New Grove Dictionary of Opera (R782.1 N532) - A multi-volume set, like the previous title but with a focus on opera. The edition is shelved behind the circulation desk on Permanent Reserve.

  • Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians (R780.92 B16b) - Comprehensive biographical source.
  • Baker's Biographical Dictionary of 20th Century Musicians (R780.92 S63b) - Comprehensive 1-vol. collection of 20th century biographies.
  • Chronicle of American Music (780.973 H17c) - Listing by year, from 1700 through 1995, of musical happenings, including performances, top songs, composer births and deaths, etc.
  • Music Index - Annual bound index to periodical articles on all areas of music. Shelved in the bound periodicals sections.
