LIBRARY DATABASES

  • LIBRARY CATALOG - To search for books on a particular topic, use a Subject or a Keyword Search. To search for books at other libraries use the links on the BOOKS & BOOK REVIEWS web page.
  • EBSCOHOST - Search multiple databases (together or separately) to access full-text periodicals, newspapers and reference tools. Academic Search Premier and Business Search Premier index peer-reviewed scholarly journals in a variety of subject areas. Other databases focus on specific areas such as health and education.
  • ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ONLINE - More than 72,000 encyclopedia articles on all subjects, with a section for interactive maps.

  • Atlas of American History (911.73 J13a) - Line-drawn maps.
  • Maps on File (912 M297) - Line-drawn maps in ring binders, suitable for photocopying. Located in the Encyclopedias.
  • FILE MAPS - List of National Geographic maps, located next to National Geographic in the Periodicals section.

  • MAPQUEST - Interactive atlas, for creating maps on various scales, national and international.
  • DAVID RUMSEY COLLECTION OF HISTORICAL MAPS - Historical Map Collection focused on rare 18th and 19th century North and South America cartographic history materials. Historic maps of the World, Europe, Asia and Africa are also represented.
  • GAZETTEER OF THE U.S. - Identify places, from the Census Department.
  • GETTY THESAURUS OF GEOGRAPHIC NAMES - This webpage includes all continents and nations of the modern political world, as well as historical places. It includes physical features and administrative entities, such as cities and nations. The emphasis is on places that are important for art and architecture.
  • MAPMACHINE - Archive of maps sponsored by the National Geographic.
  • NATIONAL ATLAS - Contains a variety of maps, including political, biology, wildlife, etc. Able to create you own maps as well.
  • PANORAMIC MAPS OF THE UNITED STATES - From the Library of Congress Memory Project, a popular cartographic form used to depict U.S. and Canadian cities and towns during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
  • PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY MAP COLLECTION - Displays selected digitized images from the printed map collection housed at the University of Texas at Austin.
  • U.S. CENSUS BUREAU MAPS - Regional mapping service from the U.S. Census Department.
  • U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY - How to locate and order USGA topographic maps.
