  • Best Hospitals – US News and World Report – Provides a list of the best hospitals in the country for 17 different medical specialties. Hospitals can also be searched alphabetically by name.
  • Center for Science in the Public Interest – This organization writes the reports that tell us which foods are bad for us. Many of their reports and studies are available through their site.
  • Centers for Disease Control – The CDC site will tell you diseases to watch out for when traveling to countries throughout the world. Recommended immunizations are listed for each country
  • MayoClinic.com – Provides authoritative, easy to read information on diseases and medications. Interactive programs for health assessment, lifestyle planning and disease self-management are included. There is a first-aid handbook and there are articles on common conditions and health topics.
  • NCCAM – The National Institutes of Health sponsored information about alternative medicines.
  • HerbMed – This database is produced by Alternative Medicine Foundation, Inc. For each herb listed they provide information such as evidence for efficacy, methods of preparation, evidence of activity, updates, warnings and formulas/blends.
  • The Health Pages – Provides physician information, address, phone number, gender, years in practice, specialty, type of insurance accepted and other patient’s rating of the doctor. Also provides a very simple three step searching method to obtain a list of doctors in your area. Provides a link to state boards of Medical Examiners.
  • Iowa Board of Medicine – Provides access to Physician’s full name, birth date, place and year of diploma, and whether currently licensed in the state, includes license number. It also tells if there is public board action on file for the physician.
  • Quack Watch – Stephen Bennett, M.D., a retired psychiatrist and vice president of the National Council Against Health Fraud operates this site designed to alert consumers to medical scams and misinformation.
  • Travel Health Online – This site also provides information on immunizations you should get before traveling to foreign countries. It also provides other health tips such as where not to drink the water.
  • USDA Nutrient Database – Provides nutrient information for all types of food.
  • HealthInfoIowa– Access to electronic health information for the public, focusing on Iowa resources.
  • Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield – This site provides information in our health insurance carrier. There is a list of FAQ for each plan.
