  • LIBRARY CATALOG - To search for books on a particular topic, use a Subject or a Keyword Search. To search for books at other libraries use the links on the BOOKS & BOOK REVIEWS web page.
  • ACCESS Science - Based on content from the Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, 10th Edition, this continuously updated science site includes videos, news, research updates, biographies and definitions.
  • BioOne.1 - Full-text articles in the field of botany and animals.
  • EBSCOHOST - Search multiple databases (together or separately) to access full-text periodicals, newspapers and reference tools. Academic Search Premier and Business Search Premier index peer-reviewed scholarly journals in a variety of subject areas. Other databases focus on specific areas such as health and education.
  • GREENFILE - Free EBSCOhost research database focusing on the relationship between human beings and the environment, with well-researched but accessible information on topics ranging from global warming to recycling to alternate fuel sources and beyond.
  • JSTOR - Arts & Sciences I, II & III Collections include the complete back runs of 394 core journals in many disciplines, including economics, history, political science, and sociology, as well as in other key fields in the humanities and social sciences.  Includes a selection of titles in the fields of archaeology, arts, classics, cultural studies, ecology, literature, mathematics, and statistics.
  • LexisNexis ACADEMIC - Comprehensive research database providing full-text access to various databases, including current news, business information, Hoover’s company records, company directories, federal and state laws, legal cases, medical and references.
  • WILEY INTERSCIENCE--EARTH AND ENVIRONMENT SCIENCE - Journal index and full-text articles related to earth and environmental science.
  • ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ONLINE - More than 72,000 encyclopedia articles on all subjects.

PRINT RESOURCES

  • Advances in Ecological Research (577 A244) - Advances in Ecological Research presents a wide range of papers on all aspects of ecology. Topics include the physiology, populations, and communities of plants and animals, as well as landscape and ecosystem ecology.
  • Environment & the Law: A Dictionary (344.73 P32e) - Brief explanations of terms and concepts.
  • Encyclopedia of the Environment (363.7 E56) - An encyclopedia with brief articles on many topics.
  • Encyclopedia of Climate & Weather (551.5 e56) - A 2-vol. encyclopedia on scientific topics.
  • Encyclopedia of Energy & the Environment (628.03 E56) - A 2-volume set treating topics in energy technologies and their effects on the environment.

  • DIRECTORY OF OPEN ACCESS JOURNALS (DOAJ) - Provides free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. It aims to cover all subjects and languages.
  • HIGHWIRE PRESS - Free online full-text science articles.
  • PLoS - Biology and health and medical pages. The Public Library of Science (PLoS) is a nonprofit scientific and medical publishing venture that provides scientists and physicians with high-quality, high-profile journals in which to publish their most important work, while making the full contents freely available for anyone to read, distribute, or use for their own research.
  • JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION - Online access to JAMA. Abstracts only.
  • OPEN SCIENCE DIRECTORY - An ongoing program to create a global search tool for all open access and special programs journal titles. Supported by EBSCOhost, a large collection of e-journals is now available for researchers.
  • PUBMED - Public access to MEDLINE citations from the mid 1960's. Available from the government.
  • PUBMED CENTRAL - Digital archive of life sciences literature. Contains a limited number of journals.
  • SCIENCE.gov - searches over 36 databases and 1,850 selected websites, offering 200 million pages of authoritative U.S. government science information, including research and development results.
  • SCIRUS - Comprehensive science-specific search engine, searching not only websites but full-text articles and abstracts from Medline, ScienceDirect, and BioMed Central.

  • GEOSPATIAL ONE-STOP - designed to facilitate communication and sharing of geographic data and resources to enhance government efficiency; to access geospatial information.
  • IOWA GEOLOGY - Information from Iowa Geological Survey Bureau.
  • NATIONAL CLIMATIC DATA CENTER - The world's largest active archive of weather data.
  • NATIONAL GEOPHYSICAL DATA CENTER - Contains a variety of digital geospatial data.
  • NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE - Provides detailed weather forecasts for the U.S., including satellite images, air quality, etc.
