LIBRARY DATABASES

  • LIBRARY CATALOG - To search for books on a particular topic, use a Subject or a Keyword Search. To search for books at other libraries use the links on the BOOKS & BOOK REVIEWS web page.
  • EBSCOHOST - Search multiple databases (together or separately) to access full-text periodicals, newspapers and reference tools. Academic Search Premier and Business Search Premier index peer-reviewed scholarly journals in a variety of subject areas. Other databases focus on specific areas such as health and education.
  • MEDLINE - To search for articles on chemistry use MEDLINE, from FirstSearch. Includes thousands of citation records with substantial abstracts.
  • ACCESS Science - Based on content from the Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, 10th Edition, this continuously updated science site includes videos, news, research updates, biographies and definitions.
  • LexisNexis ACADEMIC - Comprehensive research database providing full-text access to various databases, including current news, business information, Hoover’s company records, company directories, federal and state laws, legal cases, medical and references.
  • CAMPUS RESEARCH - Comprehensive research database includes full-text information and access to both current and archived materials, including thousands of news databases and newswires as well as business, trade and professional journals and publications; superior law-related resources.
  • WILEY INTERSCIENCE--CHEMISTRY - Journal index and full-text articles related to chemistry.
  • ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ONLINE - More than 72,000 encyclopedia articles on all subjects.

  • CHEMICAL ABSTRACTS ON STN - Access Chemical Abstracts and Registry databases. Evenings and Saturdays only. Ask at reference for account and password.  For users of these databases, a summary and review of Searching Tips is available. Or access information about CAS.
  • AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY JOURNALS - Search and access full-text of all American Chemical Society journals. Use the "Web Subscriber Search Form" for advanced searching of specific journals.

  • Lange's Handbook of Chemistry (541.9 L27h 2005) - 16th ed., a 1-vol. source of factual information.
  • Macmillan Encyclopedia of Chemistry (540.3 M167) - A 4-vol. summary encyclopedia featuring brief articles with bibliographies.
  • Merck Index : An Encyclopedia of Chemicals, Drugs, and Biologicals (615.1 M555 1996) - A dictionary of chemical information regarding drugs, chemicals, and biomolecules.

  • ATOMIC STRUCTURE AND THE PERIODIC TABLE - This "online textbook" is designed to provide a thorough, in-depth treatment of this topic at the first-year college or advanced-HS levels, with a special focus on the underlying concepts.
  • CHEMISTRY CENTRAL -  Publishing peer-reviewed open access research in chemistry, from BioMed Central.
  • CHEMISTRY WEBBOOK - From the National Institute of Standards and Technology. (Not frequently updated.)
  • eMOLECULES - Useful site for chemists.
  • MSDS - MSDS sheets for a variety of chemicals and chemical compounds.
  • ELEMENTAL DATA INDEX - Provides access to online scientific data on specific chemical elements.
  • NIST VIRTUAL LIBRARY--CHEMISTRY - From the National Institute of Standards and Technology, links and information about all areas of chemistry. Also the NIST Chemistry Webbook is a comprehensive source for chemical and physical property data for chemical compounds.
  • PUBCHEM - Provides information on the biological activities of small molecules.
  • WEB ELEMENTS - A web version of the Periodical Table of the Elements.
