LIBRARY DATABASES

  • LIBRARY CATALOG - To search for books on a particular topic, use a Subject or a Keyword Search. To search for books at other libraries use the links on the BOOKS & BOOK REVIEWS web page.
  • LITERATURE RESOURCE CENTER- Access biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of more than 120,000 authors from every age and literary discipline. Contains Contemporary Authors, Dictionary of Literary Biography and MLA.
  • EBSCOHOST - Search multiple databases (together or separately) to access full-text periodicals, newspapers and reference tools. Academic Search Premier and Business Search Premier index peer-reviewed scholarly journals in a variety of subject areas. Other databases focus on specific areas such as health and education.
  • CAMPUS RESEARCH - Comprehensive research database includes full-text information and access to both current and archived materials, including thousands of news databases and newswires as well as business, trade and professional journals and publications; superior law-related resources.
  • ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ONLINE - More than 72,000 encyclopedia articles on all subjects.

LIBRARY REFERENCE

  • Contemporary Authors- Available through Literature Resource Center.
  • Current Biography (920 C97) - Brief, popularly-written articles on celebrities and people prominent in the news, compiled annually. Look up an individual in the comprehensive indexes to find the correct annual volume.
  • Dictionary of American Biography (920.073 D554) - A set of 22 volumes.  To find an article, look up an individual by name (or occupation, school, birthplace, etc.) in the comprehensive index at the end of the set.
  • American National Biography (920.073 A512) - A 24 volume set published in 1999. Like the DAB, it includes articles on notable Americans.
  • Scribner Encyclopedia of American Lives (920.073 S434) - A new set that continues the DAB, with volumes appearing at 5-year intervals and containing articles on notable individuals who died during that period.
  • Dictionary of National Biography (920.042 O98b 2004) - Similar to the preceding sets, but for notable British subjects.  A set of 61 volumes.  To find an article, look up an individual by name (or occupation, school, birthplace, etc.) in the comprehensive index at the end of the set.
