The mission of world language and culture studies is to train advanced students for competence in writing, reading, listening and communicative skills, as well as developing a cultural competency in their target language in order to prepare them for graduate school, a vocation, or a profession of which foreign language skills will be a vital part. We help all students, including those completing the required elementary competence, to understand their own language and culture through another language and culture, to stimulate growth through an increasing global awareness, and to make proficiency in a second language a personal goal.

Our world language majors can choose from many study abroad opportunities. Formal international study programs include the Simpson Semester in Seville, the Simpson German Semester in Schorndorf and the Semester in France offered through the American Institute for Foreign Study.
