Recommendations & Requirements

Bringing a personal computer to campus?  Here is some required and recommended computer hardware and software to bring with you.

All Computers

  • 25' Ethernet patch cord (for wired connection)
  • 802.11b or g (for wireless connection)

Macintosh

  • Macintosh OS 10.3.X or higher
  • All Macintosh OS critical updates
  • Free Anti-Virus software provided by Simpson College 

Windows

  • Microsoft Windows XP or Vista 
  • All Microsoft Windows critical updates
  • Free Anti-Virus software provided by Simpson College 

To connect your computer to the Simpson College network just follow the "Get Connected" link on the Simpson College Information Services homepage http://www.simpson.edu/is .  There are three main steps; uninstalling your current anti-virus software, configuring your network settings, and validating your computer by logging on to our Cisco CleanAccess server.  Validating your computer will ensure that it is running an updated system, and guide you through installing Simpson's FREE anti-virus software.

Below are the recommended system configurations for connecting to the Simpson College Network.  Having a computer that meets or exceeds these guidelines will help ensure your ability to connect to our network.
