FAQ

Q. How do I change my e-mail password?

A. Visit our password page for instructions.

Q. How do I get rid of SPAM in my e-mail?

A. Visit our SPAM filter page to tailor your own SPAM filter.

Q. What is adware/spyware, and how do I remove it?

A. Software that is not intentionally installed on your computer. This software can cause pop-ups and can record internet usage including gathering your credit card numbers. Normally these programs are used for advertising. They can, however, cause your Internet connection and computer to run very slowly. Use our removal instructions to uninstall adware/spyware. Some programs can be removed manually by using the Add/Remove programs feature in windows.  Examples of common spyware are WebRebates and SaveNow.

Q. How do I configure my firewall for the Simpson College network?

A. Essentially the firewall needs to allow SmartEnforcer.exe access to the Internet. If you do not know how to configure your firewall it is best to either disable it or uninstall the program. We have provided instructions for configurating the two most common firewalls Norton and McAfee.

Q. My computer won't shutdown or has frozen.

A. This is usually due to a software error from which windows can not recover. First step is to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete all at once and click the End Task bottom on the appropriate Not Responding program. If this does not work then push and hold the power button in for 5-10 seconds or until the computer powers off. WARNING: it may be unavoidable but doing either of the aforementioned will and can cause you to lose any unsaved data.
