Scholar
(Web CT has been replaced by Scholar.)
Scholar is a web-based learning management software that many of our faculty will use to create an online learning community for your classes. They will use it in a variety of ways, such as posting syllabus and class information, testing online, and facilitating forum discussions, all designed to extend and enhance the larning opportunities outside the classroom.
Scholar courses can be set up for any professor at Simpson College wishing to use it for their class. To have a course set up for you, call or send an e-mail to Chuck Johnson at (515) 961-1866, or Jule Thorsen at (515) 961-1844.
You will need to know the department, course number and class name. For Example: ENG 101 Comp & Rhetoric I. You can have your course based on an already-existing class on WebCT or start out with a blank course.
Portal Site
Portal involvement sites are web based and visible under the "My Involvement" section of the Stormfront portal. These sites allow faculty and students to collaborate in a variety of ways, such as posting announcements, documents, and forum discussions related to a class. As students add and drop the class, the membership is automatically updated in the portal site.
