FAQ

Q.  I open Internet Explorer and it says "Page Cannot be Displayed," also, when I click on CleanAccess to log in, it says "CleanAccess Not Available."

A.  This means you are not connected to the network correctly. Make sure your computer is plugged into a wall jack with a pink or black icon above it. If it is plugged in correctly check for lights where the cable plugs into the computer.  If there are yellow or green lights then click here for instructions. If it still isn't fixed, please call Information Services.

Q. I downloaded the Windows Updates from Microsoft a couple times and it still says I need updates.

A.  It is right, Microsoft updates build off each other and require updates to be installed before more current updates can be installed. A system that has never been updated before may have to visit the update site five or six times before complete. If you do see an error when installing, you do have a problem and should call for assistance.

Q. I click on the CleanAccess icon and an error says"CleanAccess server is not available on the network."

A. This is caused when CleanAccess can not access the network either due to a firewall or other program blocking it or incorrect network configuration. If you have a firewall, please allow the CleanAccess.exe full access to the Internet.  Running Ad-Aware can also remove the programs that could be denying CleanAccess access.

Q. I log in to CleanAccess and it says I have temporary access.

A. You either need to install all of the updates for Windows or install the updates for your antivirus. Click on the Go To Link button in the CleanAccess window for instructions.

Q. I have not shut down my computer, but I have to log in to CleanAccess to gain Internet access.

A. This is probably due to your network card going into sleep mode with the computer. Click here for instructions on how to prevent this.

Q. I have followed the instructions on updating my antivirus and it still says I have temporary access.

A. This is most likely caused by your antivirus subscription being expired. You will have to follow the programs menus to re-subscribe. Other problems that produce an error can usually be fixed by reinstalling the software.

Q. How do I configure my firewall for the Simpson College network?

A. Essentially the firewall needs to only allow SmartEnforcer.exe access to the Internet. If you do not know how to configure your firewall, it's best to either disable it or uninstall the program. The two most common firewalls are Norton and McAfee – click on the one you have for instructions on configuring either.
