Sharing the Simpson Experience:
Nomination for the Sweet Maple Syrup Service Award
Each organization has its great service stories. The stories and the relating of those stories become a part of the organization's culture. Through the sharing of our stories, we can identify and reinforce the traditions and values of Simpson College.
Each month we will begin Employee Council by honoring these who have been nominated from the month prior by sharing their stories that demonstrate Simpson values in practice. The collection of stories will serve as a monthly reminder to encourage each Simpson employee to think about how we can be personally involved in improving the processes of the Simpson experience and to strive to exceed expectations.
How has an employee gone out of their way to assist a student or fellow employee? What inventive procedure/policy/process has helped an employee give the gift of listening/time/attention? Here are a few examples of some current practices:
- subject-specific student tutors available through Hawley
- doing away with the validation process for the students
- providing international student host families
- having student dinners in employee homes
- completing transcript evaluations while a transfer student meets with an advisor
- working late to get the computer lab ready when an instructor asks for new software at the last minute
- faculty and staff members increasing their load to take care of students while a colleague is ill
