Professor of English

Simpson College, a private, nationally recognized regional college grounded in the liberal arts tradition and affiliated with the United Methodist Church, invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Professor of English with a specialization in U.S. literature from 1865 and an emphasis on ethnic and multicultural literature. Secondary expertise in postcolonial literatures outside the U.S. is highly desirable. A dissertation in American literature is required. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop new courses, broaden departmental and general education offerings and teach in the college's first-year colloquium programs. The college is in the process of revising its curriculum to reduce the regular teaching assignment from seven to six courses across three semesters (fall, spring, May term) per academic year. Teaching load for 2011-12 and beyond is expected to be six courses (24 hours).

The main campus in Indianola is located 12 miles from the capital city of Des Moines, Iowa.

The position begins August 23, 2011, and requires a Ph.D., interdisciplinary interest, and experience and/or expressed interest in working at a primarily residential, liberal arts institution. Candidates for the position must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and a willingness to engage students in scholarship, research, and/or creative work.
