Writing Competency II Portfolio
All students, during the sixth or seventh semester (or the semester previous to the semester they graduate), must submit a portfolio containing four pieces of writing they have done after completing English 102 or its equivalent, plus a brief reflective essay that discusses how the pieces in the portfolio illustrate their development as a writer (the reflective essay is optional for students who enrolled before fall semester 1995). Students may include whatever writing they feel best demonstrates their intellectual and personal growth.
The submission dates for the 2011-2012 academic year are as follows:
Monday, September 19, 2011
Monday, November 7, 2011
Monday, February 6, 2012
Monday, March 26, 2012
NOTE: Portfolios need to be submitted by the deadlines. Portfolios not submitted by an appropriate deadline will not be processed for evaluation and will be held until the next available submission deadline. Please be aware this can jeopardize a student's potential graduate date, so we encourage students to plan accordingly.
All portfolios are submitted to the Hawley Academic Resource Center located on the 3rd floor of Dunn Library.
NOTE: If you are a student in the EWG program, you may submit your portfolio at one of the three EWG offices (Ankeny, West Des Moines, or Indianola). We encourage you to submit your portfolio a few days in advance of the deadline to allow for delivery to the Hawley Academic Resource Center via the campus mail process.
When submitting your portfolio, we do not recommend using a three-ring binder or similiar item to display your papers. If you wish, a simple file folder may be used.
As a reminder, your submission should include the following items:
-
Completed submission form
-
Reflective essay
-
Minimum of four papers meeting the requirements
Portfolios submitted which do not include the above items or incomplete items will not be processed.
