The Hawley Academic Resource Center offers CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) tests as a part of our services. Hawley is an open testing center, which means non-Simpson students, as well as Simpson students, may take exams. If you are required to take an optional essay, please call the Hawley Center at 515-961-1682 to determine availability. Exams may be repeated, but a period of six months must have elapsed.
You may register for a CLEP exam by downloading the registration form and then mailing the form to the following address:

Tests can be given at 8:45 a.m., noon, and 2:15 p.m., depending on the number of examinees registered. There is a limit of three tests per student per testing day.
Cost information:
- CLEP candidates pay $15 per exam (service fee) by credit card, check or money order (payable to "Simpson College"). This fee must be sent in with the registration form in order for us to process your application. You may write one check for all of your service fees if you are taking more than one test.
- CLEP candidates pay $65 (effective July 1, 2007) per exam with a check or money order made out to "CLEP". CLEP is now computer-based and can be paid for by credit card. This fee may be sent in with the registration or brought the day of the test. You must write a separate check for each exam if you are taking more than one. If you are taking an exam with an optional essay, there is an additional $10 fee payable to Simpson College.
- Neither check will be cashed until after you have taken the CLEP test, unless you don't show up for the test and don't call within two days after the test. In this case, the $15 service fee check to Simpson College will be cashed. The $60 check to CLEP will be returned to you.
- Simpson College students are billed a $10 fee per course when credit is given.
- A $5 transfer fee per test will be assessed to transfer a test you have registered for to another date.
