Tips for International Students

As a student from another country, adapting to Simpson College and the campus environment may be somewhat of a challenge for you. In order to make this task a little easier, you should consider the following tips.

  • In your first semester, meet with the international student advisor at least once a week in order to address any problems and to keep the advisor informed about your course work. Also, be sure to inform your advisor about the status of your I-20 and your visa to make sure that these do not expire too early.
  • Talk to your professors, and let them know that you are an international student. This will alert them to any potential problems.
  • Contact the Hawley Academic Resource Center. We offer free services such as tutoring in all courses, writing assistance for papers, and English conversation sessions.
  • Take advantage of the International Student Club at Simpson College. There you will find students who are or have been in the same situatation as you. They can give you advice and help you with any problems you may have.
  • Get involved in a campus club or sport. This way you will have a better chance to get to know more students.
