Being a college student can be quite difficult. It involves many hours of studying, taking exams and writing papers. Here you will find some tips on studying, preparing for and taking tests and managing your time. This Website also contains some advice for adult students, international students and students with disabilities.
In addition to using the information presented here, please feel free to visit the Hawley Academic Resource Center for further assistance. Our staff will be glad to help you with any additional questions or problems you may have. You can find us on the third floor of Dunn Library. Our phone number is 961-1682. Our hours of operation are Monday - Thursday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Our summer hours are Monday - Friday from 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Individualized Help

Foreign language
Assistance with course assignments, reading textbooks, studying for tests and writing papers. Assistance when using listening tapes (available at Hawley).
Language arts and study skills
Hawley can provide academic strategies for taking tests, taking notes, reading college textbooks and managing time and stress. Free handouts are available on many study skill topics. Resources are also provided for international students and students with special needs (including students with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder and physical disabilities). Computer software is available for both students seeking study skills assistance and students seeking help with English as a second language.
Writing
Hawley provides guidance at any point in the writing process: planning, drafting, revising and proofreading. Information is available on research methods and documentation styles (including the documentation of internet resources). Assistance is available when revising or assembling a portfolio (part of Simpson's Writing Competency requirement). Hawley provides the Hawley Guide to Writing free of charge to Simpson students.
Math
Assistance is provided for understanding math concepts at all levels. Practice materials and general information about the Quantitative Literacy Competency (QLC) can be found at here.
Other subject areas
Free tutoring in all other subject areas is scheduled on an individual basis (appointments are required).
National Tests
Hawley administers the CLEP (College Level Examination Program) and CBASE tests for a small fee. Registration forms and study materials are available for graduate exams (GRE, GMAT, LAST, MCAT).
