Health, Wellness, and Sports in the 21st Century
Simpson Colloquium SC 101 K - Health, Wellness, and Sports in the 21st Century
T TH 9:40- 11:10AM
At no time in history have so many people been so concerned with their health. Everywhere we turn, there is a new study or some new finding or latest breakthrough in health and medicine. How does the common person know what to do and what not to do? We face numerous challenges to our health on a daily basis and having knowledge to know how best to respond to these challenges and making good, healthy choices is critical to long-term wellness. We will also investigate the importance of the economic impact of sports and the role it plays in society as well as the connection of activity and the implications of a sedentary lifestyle.

Meet Your Destination Leader
Anna Aldridge
Hey everyone! I’m going to be the Destination Leader for the SC class – “Health Wellness and Sports in the 21st Century.”
I’m going to be a senior next year when I am with all of you all. I am a double major in Athletic Training and Biology. I plan on going to Med-school following graduation in April 2013. My plans are to become an orthopedic surgeon, or an oncologist. I love my majors, especially Athletic Training. I have met so many people and made so many friends by helping train for the athletes on campus.
I am from the city of Indianola, so I know the town pretty well. Although I am from town, I do live on campus, and have all my years at Simpson. I love my parents and my brother, but I have had too many amazing experiences in the dorms and the apartments to pass up.
I was a student athlete for a long while – swimming and soccer were my main sports. I have been involved in those two sports since I was about six years old. I also am involved in a couple of clubs on campus like SAAC, and Pre-Health Society. I find myself busy all the time, but I always find time to have fun with my friends.
I can’t wait to meet all of you! See you soon.
Meet your Writing Fellow
Meagan Kirts
Hello Everyone! My name is Meagen Kirts and I will be your writing fellow this coming fall.
I will be a senior this fall and I am double majoring in Athletic Training and Exercise Science. I am very interested and excited about health, wellness, and over all fitness. I love being around the fitness and athletic environment and I plan on attending graduate school for exercise science or exercise physiology in my future. This fall I will also be the undergraduate Health and Wellness Intern, and I am very excited about this opportunity.
I come from an air force family and have lived in four different countries, five different states, and I have moved a total of 10 different times. I love traveling the world to experience other cultures and traditions. It has given me a great persceptive of the world, it has made me appreciate the little things, but most of all I have been blessed with meeting many friends along the way.
I am a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority where I have held numerous leadership positions. I am also involved greatly within athletics here at Simpson College. I currently run track, and in addition I played tennis for the Simpson Storm. My athletic training duties, classes and track keep my pretty busy, yet I always find time to enjoy with friends and my sorority sisters.
