United Methodist Service to Community Grant
This grant seeks to develop trained, committed volunteer leaders through service-learning experiences. It is awarded to United Methodist students who have demonstrated outstanding community service or have expressed a desire to serve.
This need-based grant ranges from $12,000 to $15,000 per year. In addition to this grant, students may be eligible for state or federal financial assistance.
- In return, each week students perform 10-15 hours of community service and attend a reflective meeting during the Simpson academic year (first-year students will complete 10-12 hours per week; sophomores through seniors will complete 12-15 hours per week)
- In the student’s junior and senior years, every effort will be made to shape the student’s service experience to his/her academic interest
- Due to the generous amount of this grant, it cannot be combined with other Simpson College merit or talent scholarships
Eligibility Criteria
- Member of the United Methodist Church
- Financial need
- New full-time first-year student or transfer student
- Completed Simpson College application for admission and notification of acceptance
- Completed United Methodist Service to Community Grant application including certification of church membership
- Demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership
