Outside scholarships available to Simpson students

The Sallie Mae 911 Education Fund Program is open to children of those who were killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks, and who are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Scholarships up to $2500 per applicant, per school year, are available and may be renewed on an annual basis subject to satisfactory academic progress. Hy-Vee Scholarship
Students are eligible if they have been employed by Hy-Vee or subsidiary location after June 1 of the year preceding the award of the scholarship. The student does not need to be currently working. The student must also be classified as a full-time freshman, sophomore or junior during the time of the application. February 10 deadline. The Greater Des Moines Noon Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association awards a $1,500 Outright Grant through the Stephen Bufton Educational Fund. The deadline for receipt of the completed application and associated documents is December 31, 2009. Eligibility requirements:
- Women who are citizens of the US and residents of the State of Iowa
- Will be at least a Junior in college completing a minimum of 45 credit hours by August, 2009
- Are attending or have been accepted at an accredited college or university in Iowa that is authorized to confer degrees at or above the baccalaureate level
- Have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale

Des Moines Women's Club Memorial Scholarships has two memorial scholarships available. You may only apply for one: The Lois Dell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving female student pursuing a degree in any academic field. Rose Lorenz Schwartz Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a male or female student pursuing a degree in music or dance or studying music or dance as a component of a Performing Arts Major.
Requirements:
Applicant must be a woman who is currently enrolled as a full time student
• Applicant must be a legal resident of Polk, Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Story or Warren County
• Scholarship is to be used for tuition and mandatory fees for a full-time academic program for the 2010-2011 academic year
• Scholarships are awarded for past achievements and future goals rather than on financial need

Clarinda’s Glenn Miller Birthplace Society is offering scholarships of $4500, $2000, and $1000 to instrumentalists. The vocal scholarships will also be $4500, $2000, and $1000. These scholarships may be used for any education-related expense.
t is not the purpose of this competition to select Glenn Miller look-alikes or sound-alikes, nor is it limited to pop music performance. Rather, in honoring Glenn, they wish to seek out and assist promising young talents in any field of applied music who may be musical leaders of tomorrow.

The local area chapter in Des Moines of the Soroptimist International is offering a Women’s Opportunity Award to a woman seeking to improve her employment status by gaining educational skills.
The basic criteria for eligibility are:
1. Female head of the household, with primary financial responsibility supporting a family (may include children, a spouse, siblings and/or parents).
2. Attending, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program, or an undergraduate degree program.
3. Demonstration of financial need.
Previous recipients are ineligible to apply. Women who already have an undergraduate degree are ineligible to apply.
Applications must be received by December 15, 2009. Applications are available in the Office of Financial Assistance.
John Hughes Memorial Scholarship
Student must be attending any Iowa four year college or university and have completed their junior year and be interested in a career in banking upon graduation and must be majoring in a business or related field. This scholarship will go toward expenses for recipients to attend the first-year curriculum of the Iowa School of Banking held June 13-18, 2010 in Cedar Rapids. Complete information and applications are available in the Office of Financial Assistance. Applications and all materials must be postmarked by April 9, 2010.
The AICPA is pleased to offer several academic scholarships for students interested in accounting and business:
AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship - a joint program with Accountemps, awarding five $2,500 scholarships to students pursuing a degree in accounting, finance or information systems.
John L. Carey Scholarship - $5,000 scholarships for up to 10 liberal arts or other non-business related degree holders preparing to enter a graduate accounting program.
AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students - financial awards of up to $5,000 for undergraduate and graduate minority accounting students.
