The Liberal Arts Seminar adds one credit hour to the credit hours associated with other sections of that same class. This means that an average of one hour of class time per week should be devoted to meeting the LAS goals. In addition, students should expect to spend an average of two hours per week outside of class doing work designed to meet the LAS goals. This out of class time might be spent completing LAS related reading assignments, completing writing assignments, or attending forum events.
In acknowledgement of the demands placed on a faculty member’s time when teaching an LAS section and the previous spring when planning the LAS, faculty receive $1000. This money will automatically be divided equally across all the pay periods during the Fall.
In addition, faculty members can be reimbursed for LAS related expenditures (e.g., for the class dinner) up to $10 per class member (i.e., students, seminar assistants, and faculty member). Keep all receipts and please contact Shelly Priebe , Faculty Development, for reimbursement.
