Closing Campus for Inclement Weather

If we wake to inclement weather, several cabinet members will determine if the weather is severe enough to make travel to campus hazardous for students and staff.  This decision will be made by approximately 5:15 a.m.  If the decision to close is made, Jim Thorius will broadcast a voice mail to all phones on campus, change the front page of the Simpson home page and send a mass email to faculty, staff and students informing us of the closing.

To check voice mail from an off campus location dial 962-3000 and follow the prompts to listen to your personal voicemail.

After these internal steps are taken, the media will be contacted to add the cancellation to their broadcasts.

Of course, you are the only one who knows the roads you must travel, so if you think it is too dangerous to travel to work or you feel you must leave early, you may make the appropriate arrangements.

This same procedure will be followed for evening classes or an early closing beginning in the early afternoon.

The information above is provided as a helpful overview of the procedure for weather cancellations.  To read the official College policy, search for "snow and ice day policy" in the employee handbook.
