POST BACCALAUREATE CERTIFICATES
Post Baccalaureate Certificates are designed for individuals who have already earned a bachelor degree and wish to continue their education, typically in a different field. Simpson offers Post Baccalaureate certificates in:
Admission and Program Requirements
- Candidates must complete the Certificate Application
- Candidates must enroll in all courses on a regular basis.
- Candidates may not take or transfer in more than two courses required for a certificate from other educational institutions. Pre-requisites must be met for some classes and can be transferred in from other institutions as long as they satisfy Simpson's coursework.
- Candidates pursuing the Accounting or Management certificates, who received their BA from Simpson College and already received credit for coursework that is a part of the Certificate program in which they are enrolled, must substitute other 300 level classes to satisfy the requirements, as approved by the department chair.
- Due to duplication of coursework, individuals cannot register for both a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting and a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Management.
- A cumulative grade point average of (2.50) must be obtained in the program with at least a 'C' (2.00) grade earned in each class.
- All course requirements are expected to be completed in a four-year time frame.
- Written permission from the chairperson of the department offering the certificate program is required to modify course requirements.
- Each candidate who completes these requirements will receive a certificate which, in addition to the transcript, will serve as official documentation of the continuing education experience.
Tuition and Fees
The tuition for the 2011-12 academic year is $318 plus $5 technical fee per credit for courses taken at the undergraduate level; and $425/credit for courses taken at the graduate level.
Candidates should budget between $200 and $450 each semester for books and supplies.
Room and board are not available for candidates in certificate programs.

AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION
Areas of Specialization are designed for working adults who wish to acquire specific skills and knowledge in the following areas:
Program Requirements for Areas of Specialization
- Candidates must complete the Areas of Specialization Application
- Candidates must complete the designated courses in the desired specialization.
- Candidates must enroll in all courses on a regular grade basis and must complete all of the courses within the particular area of specialization at Simpson College.
- Each specialization has a prerequisite, experience with at least one high-level object-oriented programming language. This prerequisite may be met by either taking CmSc 150 Fundamentals of Computing I or by having equivalent experience.
- All courses having prerequisites must have those prerequisites satisfied although equivalent experience may be substituted for the prerequisite at the discretion of the department.
- A cumulative grade point average of 2.50 must be obtained in the program with at least a 'C' (2.00) grade earned in each class.
- In addition to the standard courses within the area of specialization, a student must complete a portfolio, which will include appropriate research, or projects that will validate an understanding of the area of specialization. This portfolio will be completed during the highest level course within the area of specialization and will be awarded 2 credits.
- All course requirements are expected to be completed in a two-year time frame.
- Written permission from the chairperson of the department offering the specialization program is required to modify course requirements.
- Each candidate who completes these requirements will receive documentation, in addition to the transcript, which will serve as an official record of the continuing education experience.
