Communication Studies

The Department of Communication Studies at Simpson College provides a broad-based study of theories and competencies relevant to various human communication encounters. The evening program provides three specific majors of study: 1) Journalism and Mass Communication 2) Corporate Communication and 3) Rhetoric and Speech Communication. Communication studies at Simpson proceeds from the assumption that a core set of theories, values and principles common to the majors should form the backbone of the student's academic preparation.

Consistent with the objectives of a liberal arts education, communication studies majors are strongly encouraged to pursue a minor or a second major in a related field. The particular field selected will vary given the student's educational and professional goals. However, students may not double major in more than one communication studies major, nor may they pursue a major-minor within communication studies.

We offer three minors in the evening program: 1) Journalism and Mass Communication 2) Corporate Communication and 3) Rhetoric and Speech Communication.
