Julie Summers joined Simpson's communication studies program in 2007. She brings a wealth of professional experience to the classroom. Prior to teaching, Summers served as Assistant Vice President, Marketing Manager, for Wells Fargo for over 10 years. At Wells Fargo, she managed training, communication, marketing and compliance programs for the credit and debit cards used by thousands of Wells Fargo customers. She was instrumental in introducing online training tools to the banking locations. Summers has served as an adjunct instructor at Des Moines area institutions for the past 12 years. In 2005, she starting teaching full-time as an instructor at Iowa State University.

In addition to teaching corporate communication classes, Summers advises the student-led Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter at Simpson. The group is involved in publicizing many campus-wide activities. Members of the chapter regularly travel to the national conference in October. The chapter also connects with professional members of the Central Iowa chapter to further their knowledge of the communications arena.
