ARTS

ARTS & Artist's USArts Program:  Arranges for international students to come to the US and be assigned to an Art institution across the country, also arranges internships for overseas students. Host organizations prepare a training program for the intern to submit as part of their final application, a mid-term report and a final evaluation report at the end of the placement. Internships are both unpaid and paid depending on the organization. Applicants must have a minimum of 1 year of post secondary education and have an interest in the arts. Art Internship:  Dahlquist Clayworks, an art company involved in designing and producing public are, private sculptures and architectural restoration, is seeking a fall intern.  The intern will mix clay, make tiles, glaze tiles, pack molds, and perform general studio labor as needed.  Art majors are preferred, clay experience would be beneficial.  Contact the Counseling and Career Services office at 961-1667 and/or Dahlquist Clayworks at 284-1675 for application information.   (Open)

Drake Athletic Ticket Office:Drake is currently looking for interns to work in the Ticket Office for the fall and spring semesters. This is a great opportunity to receive internship credits and gain experience in NCAA Division I athletics. It is a part-time position that offers a flexible schedule and will have some evening and weekend hours. Job responsibilities include customer service at the window and over the phone, order processing on the TicketReturn ticketing system, event staffing, assisting with bulk mailings, and general office duties as necessary. This is a for-credit internship, but once the require number of credits is reached, an hourly wage will be paid. Des Moines Art Center: The Des Moines Art Center is looking to fill an internship for a Advertising Sales Intern. Responsibilities include being in charge of selling advertisements to local companies for the 2008-2009 Des Moines Art Center "On Stage" concert series programs. This position works with the development staff, grants and communications associate and marketing director. Ideal experience would include at least two or more years of post-secondary education with majors of advertising, marketing, and/or communications. (open)


COMMUNICATIONS (INCLUDES MARKETING/PUBLIC RELATIONS/MULTIMEDIA) 

Internships with the Governor's Office -Many Different Internships Available!: For all internships, students must complete and return (1) attached form and (2) a resume. The internships are not paid but they are willing to work with the intern and his/her college to assist with college credit for the experience. Interns will garner experience at the center of state government, the opportunity to network with people from the executive and legislative branch and the chance to earn recommendations from members of the Govenor's Office. Internships are available for summer, fall, and spring. Must be able to work at least 16 hours per week. The following internships are available:

Communications Intern:The intern will assist the Communications Department in disseminating news from the Govenor's Office. Official tasks include writing press releases and advisories, organizing and briefing the Governor, Lt. Governor and First Lady for press conferences, updating and maintaining press lists, pitching press events to the media, writing special letters and tracking media coverage of policy initiatives. Interns should possess excellent verbal and written communications skills, strong computer skills and willingness to learn.

Policy Intern:Interns will assist the Policy Department on issue tracking and policy development. Tasks include policy research and analysis, policy correspondence, outreach work with interest groups, bill tracking, issue tracking with state departments and policy development. Students applying should have a background in political science, humanities or liberal arts and a demonstrated interest in public policy.

Outreach Intern:The interns will assist in marketing the Govenor's message and policy to targeted constituencies. Tasks include direct contact with nonprofit groups, businesses and state agencies; creation of newsletters and targeted articles; and visits with strategic outreach groups. Students applying should have an interest in public policy, communication and marketing and should have strong research, verbal and written communication skills.

Casework Intern: Interns will assist the office caseworker with citizen inquiries. Tasks include handling casework calls and mail, computer entry and special projects. Students should have strong communication and people skills.

Administrative Office Intern: Interns will assist the Correspondence Coordinator and the Judicial Appointments Coordinator, as well as assist with administrative support when needed. Tasks include copying, filing, data entry and answering the phone and mail. Students should have strong computer and communication skills.

Legal Interns: The Legal Department has two types of internships available. These internships provide students an excellent opportunity to observe the workings of state government from the center of the executive branch.

1. One intern will work primarily with the Assistant to the General Counsel in matters such as the review of clemency files and responding correspondence. Students applying should be first year law students or an undergrad with an interest in attending law school.

2. The second intern will work with the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel. They will be assigned to legal research and writing projects in a variety of areas of law including administrative rules, ethics and open meetings/pubic record. Special projects may also be assigned. The intern will be asked to attend various public hearings and/or public meetings and provide a written or verbal summary of the proceedings. Students applying should be enrolled in law school and possess strong legal research and writing skills and an ability to produce a high-quality work product in a short amount of time.

Video Production Intern: 1 student per semester; 10-20 hours/week.  Assist in game day audio/video production.
