Internet Job Searches

The Internet is becoming a powerful tool in the job search process.   You can identify job openings throughout the world, research companies, contact professionals in your field, and find advice on resume writing, interviewing, etc.  Use the internet as an additional tool not a replacement for other sources.  The links above will take you to general job search sites or to a more specific search.  Research and evaluate each site as not all internet sites give accurate and helpful information and some charge a fee for their services.

Principle benefits of using the Internet in your job search include the ability to:

  • access timely job notices around the clock
  • locate unusual or difficult-to-find career information
  • communicate with professionals or resource groups in specialized areas
  • research companies, organizations, and agencies
  • post your resume / apply online for positions

Principle drawbacks of using the Internet in your job search include:

  • vast, sometimes unwieldy amounts of career and job search information
  • privacy issues related to posting your resume online
  • over-utilizing the Internet while under-utilizing other career resources (print, people, etc.)
  • the disappearance or relocation of useful career sites without notice
