Simon Estes

EstesBass-baritone Simon Estes, a native Iowan, studied at the University of Iowa before entering The Juilliard School of Music in New York City. Since his professional opera debut in 1965 in Berlin, Estes has received acclaim for his performances at major operas houses and international festivals around the world.

A man of humble beginnings, Estes has used his celebrity to benefit children and young adults around the globe. He has established four scholarship organizations to help students attend college: The Simon Estes Scholarship Fund at the University of Iowa, The Simon and Westella H. Estes Scholarship Fund at Centerville Community College, The Simon Estes Iowa Arts Scholarship Fund and The Simon Estes Educational Foundation in Tulsa. He also founded the Simon Estes International Foundation for Children, based in Switzerland, to assist with the educational and health needs of underprivileged children, and the Simon Estes Music High School for students in South Africa.

Estes has taught master’s classes in many countries throughout the world. He is currently a distinguished professor and artist in residence at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, as well as a distinguished artist in residence at Iowa State University in Ames. He also serves as a professor of music at Boston University.
