Art 131 - Foundations of Design
Referring to a photograph of a person, students completed three abstracted designs based on that photograph. The first design was to be a minimum abstraction of the photograph; a somewhat representational created with general areas of value and general shape structure. The second design was to be a further abstraction of the imagery. The third design was to be a complete non-representational abstraction using major shape and value components that operate on some of the basic design principles found in the original photograph.

Students were tasked with creating an effective, branded brochure. They were given two different clients/products to choose from: a proposed medical plaza and an upcoming piece of software. Logos and copy were provided for each. Certain criteria was given for the project, but the only restrictive element was that the completed piece must be able to fit within a 6" x 9" envelope.
Art 122 - Memories
Students in Art 122: Illustration illustrated childhood memories shared by President John Byrd and various Simpson faculty. Faculty who wrote out childhood memories include Cory Harrigan, Emily Machen, Jan Everhart, Jennifer Nostrala, Pat Singer, Ron Warnet, Steve Rose and Todd Lieber.
David Wolf and Patti Young (along with her daughter Katie) had poems written that fit the bill and shared those.

Art 231 - Color Theory
Each student was assigned two Simpson staff members who work together and share a common space. To complete the exercise students interviewed each of their clients, put together a color palette of about five colors that might represent the tastes of both clients, design or redesign a commonly shared space that employs the color palette, and design and paint a mock up of a painting that can hang in the newly designed space.
Art 231 - Color Theory
For this final assignment students in the Color Theory class created color schemes and designs based on the student's perception of the client's general personality. Clients were various faculty and staff at Simpson.
