Courses in the Department of Art provide a strong foundation in art skills, identify and strengthen conceptual and technical development as an artist, and match student competencies to the needs and requirements of the work world in art. The department emphasizes individual development and growth. The culmination of this growth is the senior show or project.
The Department of Art at Simpson is affiliated with
Lorenzo di Medici Escuola di Arts, located in Florence, Italy. Students may
study fashion merchandising, design, sculpture, art history, painting,
printmaking and cinematography in a semester or year of study abroad at that
institution. Opportunities for exposure to contemporary ideas in art are
available through an extensive gallery program which brings professional
artists to the campus for a series of exhibitions in the Farnham Galleries and for residencies on
campus.
