Farnham Galleries Exhibit - Brian Duffy

DuffyBrian Duffy is the cartoonist of record for the Iowa Caucuses. Every presidential aspirant has had to pass through his pen over the last 27 years. From his perch in Des Moines he has chronicled the winners, the runners-up, the also-rans, and the ones that never should have run. In between the Caucuses he exercises his wrist by chronicling the events that matter in peoples lives.

At times his cartoons shift off the beaten paths of the headlines towards news that is often overlooked and subjects deeper meaning to society and the world as a whole. Above all else, beyond the humor or outrage, the goal of his cartoons is to make us think.

"I draw from the middle of the country, and in the heart of Iowa; this geographical location best fits the description of my political leanings or should as I say as a centrist, lack thereof," Duffy said. "This position allows me the best vantage point to target today’s politicians as they swing back and forth across the political landscape."

Duffy is a two time winner of the World Hunger Media Awards and has won the Clarion Award.  Many may know Duffy from his job as editorial cartoonist for The Des Moines Register from 1983-2009. Duffy was the last front page editorial cartoonist in the nation.

duffyart Currently, Duffy is the staff editorial cartoonist for KCCI TV, the CBS affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa. He also serves as the cartoonist of the alternatively weekly newspaper City View where he is given his own full page to let his imagination stretch it’s legs.

Being an avid cyclist, this former host of RAGBRAI has gone on to bigger and more ill advised events such as the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race In Colorado, which tops out at 12,700 feet. Duffy has used these experiences in his sports drawing that appear in Momentum Magazine, a monthly outdoors sports magazine.
