Family Weekend 2007!
There were 500 parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins that visited the Simpson campus the weekend of September 21st. Five legacy families gathered to have their photos taken of their special connection to Simpson College. Photos of the legacy families will be published in the next Simpson Magazine.
Homecoming 2007!
Over 300 alumni, family and friends came back to campus October 6th for Homecoming 2007. The classes of 1987, 1992, 1997 and 2002 celebrated milestone reunions in a weekend that included Hall of Fame inductions, tailgating, a post-game party, football, soccer and volleyball games and a memorial concert for Anne Ogan Larson ’67. Thank you those who returned to campus and we look forward to seeing you again beneath the whispering maples for Homecoming 2008 – October 25, 2008!
New Alumni Staff!
We are pleased to announce the new Director of Alumni Relations, Leslie Midget Held ’86. Leslie is a 1986 graduate of Simpson College and earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice. Leslie was also a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority while at Simpson. Most recently, Leslie was the Director of Admissions at Orchard Place in Des Moines, IA., where she enjoyed a 21 year career. Leslie, her husband, Eric Held ‘88, and their two children, Mackenzie (9) and Brady (7) live in Indianola. Leslie can be reached at leslie.held@simpson.edu .
Tricia Martin ’01 joins the office as Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. Tricia graduated from Simpson College in 2001 with a B.A. in Political Science. After graduation, Tricia spent 6 years in Washington, D.C., working in a variety of areas including: the United States Senate, Georgetown Law and The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars. Simpson Storm vs. Wartburg Knights - October 27
Join Athletic Director John Sirianni and alumni office staff for a pre-game tailgate from 11:15a.m.-12:45p.m.at Regents Park, north of Wartburg’s Walston-Hoover Stadium in Waverly, IA. Come and enjoy lunch before Simpson takes on the Wartburg in both football and men’s and women’s soccer. Simpson Storm vs. Iowa Hawkeyes - November 1
Join us on the University of Iowa campus as the Simpson Storm Men’s basketball team plays the University of Iowa Men’s basketball team at Carver Hawkeye Arena. Wear your Red and Gold and come cheer on the Storm!
4:30 – 6:30 p.m. - Reception at the Levitt Center on the Iowa Campus - One West Park Road (just northwest of Hancher Auditorium). Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available.
7 p.m. – Simpson vs. Iowa at Carver Hawkeye Arena
Shuttle service will be available between the Levitt Center and Carver Hawkeye. Please make reservations by calling 800-610-6369, or via e-mail at barb.gould@simpson.edu Tickets are limited and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Reservation deadline is October 25.
The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network. If you are unable to join us in Iowa City, you can tune in and cheer on the Storm!
Simpson College trivia:
In the first game ever played in Hopper Gym in 1912, Simpson College defeated the University of Iowa - 25-14.
Alumni Internship Program
The Alumni Office, in conjunction with Career Services, is coordinating an effort to place current Simpson College students in internships or job shadow experiences with Simpson College alumni. Alumni Weekend 2008
Save the date for Alumni Weekend 2008 on June 20 and 21. The classes of 1943, 1948, 1953, 1958, 1963, 1968-69 and 1982-84 will be celebrating milestone reunions. Please contact the alumni office with your suggestions for 2008 Alumni Award recipients. We look forward to seeing you there!

Theatre and Music
Jane Austen comes to Simpson - The theater department will be putting on “Pride and Prejudice” on November 16-18 in Pote Theatre. Box Office opens November 5th.

Lessons and Carols - This traditional English carol service with readings and anthems features the music of the Simpson College Choir, Chorale and the Brass Ensemble. This all-college event for the entire community will be Sunday, December 9 at 2 and 5 p.m. in Smith Chapel.

Athletics
