Alumni Association

With over 18,600 alumni, the Simpson College Alumni Association is what keeps our alumni connected with the school and with one another. Simpson's rich tradition would not exist without her many loyal and dedicated alumni.

 Nominations for “The Honor Roll of the Names That Live at Simpson”  

Every five years Simpson College honors our most distinguished alumni and former faculty members by adding names to “The Honor Roll of the Names That Live at Simpson”.  This honor was established, by the Board of Trustees and the Alumni Association Board of Directors, to recognize those alumni and former faculty members who have made a significant impact on Simpson College.  The names of those who are elected will be engraved on the granite wall in the Matthew Simpson Room of College Hall.  This is your opportunity to nominate an alumnus/a and/or former faculty member to this honor.    

Nominations will be reviewed in May 2010 and the finalists will be named.  The final ballot will be mailed to all eligible alumni in June 2010.  Additions to the Honor Roll will be unveiled during the sesquicentennial celebration in September of 2010.    

All alumni who graduated prior to and including the class of 2000 are eligible to submit nominations for either honor.  Nomination letters should be sent to Leslie Held, Director of Alumni Relations, Simpson College, 701 N. C Street, Indianola, IA 50125 or e-mail them to leslie.held@simpson.edu.  Please include any supporting statements you believe will assist the committee in evaluating those nominated for this honor.  All nominations are due by 4 p.m. February 1, 2010.  Any questions regarding this process should be directed to Leslie Held at 800-610-6369, 515-961-1547 or leslie.held@simpson.edu.

If you are interested in serving on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, on a reunion committee, or would like to volunteer in any other capacity please call Leslie Held, Director of Alumni Relations at 515-961-1547 or 800-610-6369.  You may nominate yourself or someone else for an alumni award or alumni board position online.

The following alumni awards are presented each June at Alumni Weekend:

Alumni Achievement Award – Outstanding career achievement, service to community and service to Simpson.

Alumni Loyalty Award – Outstanding service to Simpson College

Recent Alumni Achievement Award – Outstanding career achievement and/or service to community. Class year not to exceed ten years from the year in which the award is given.

Recent Alumni Loyalty Award – Outstanding service to Simpson College. Class year not to exceed ten years from the year the award is given.

Humanitarian Service Award – Outstanding achievement, with emphasis on service to humanity on a broader scale than community service.

alumnus - A male graduate or former student of a school, college, or university.
alumna - A woman graduate or former student of a school, college, or university.
alumni - Plural form of alumnus and also includes alumnae.
alumnae - Plural form of alumna.

How does Simpson define who is an alum? Each college or university defines alumnus/a in a different way. At Simpson, an alumnus/a is anyone who has completed 32 credit hours at Simpson (or has a sophomore class status).
