DMACC Transfer Students
Emily Brown ’10
Major: Education
Hometown: West Des Moines
Transferred From: DMACC West
Why Simpson?
Emily decided to transfer to Simpson because of the college’s quality education program, and she couldn’t be happier with her choice. “I love Simpson because the small class sizes provide a great learning opportunity,” she said. “Also, the professors here are great. They are always willing to help and their doors are always open for you to come and talk to them. It was an easy move from DMACC to Simpson, and it is the best decision I’ve made.”
Kyle Hanna ’11
Major: Physical Education
Hometown: Ankeny
Transferred From: DMACC Boone
Why Simpson?
As a senior in high school, Kyle was recruited to play baseball at Simpson. He loved the college but decided that DMACC was a better fit for him at the time. Simpson, however, stayed in the back of his mind, and he eventually transferred. In addition to playing baseball, Hanna participates in intramurals and campus worship. His favorite thing about Simpson is the interactions he has been able to have with the faculty. “I’ve never asked a teacher for help who wasn’t willing to help me,” he said.
Nick Wood ’11
Majors: International Management and Spanish
Hometown: Martensdale
Transferred From: DMACC West
Why Simpson?
After Nick graduates from Simpson, he hopes to find a job that will allow him to travel and “see new places, new people and new cultures.” Though he had scholarship offers from many colleges, Nick selected Simpson because he believed the college’s semester abroad program in Argentina could help him reach that goal. “From what I understand, living abroad is the best way to gain fluency in Spanish,” he said. While at DMACC, Nick was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and an All-Iowa Academic Team nominee.
Monica Driscoll ’10
Major: Sociology
Hometown: Williamsburg
Transferred From: DMACC Boone
Why Simpson?
When Monica began looking at colleges to complete her undergraduate degree, she knew she wanted to attend a school that would allow her to “play sports yet focus on academics at the same time.” She found that experience at Simpson, where she is a member of the Storm volleyball team. In addition to the opportunities available in athletics, Monica said she was impressed with the number of activities students at Simpson can be involved in. “There is always something to do on campus,” she said.
