How does Simpson help students find jobs?
Employers want employees who can reason, communicate and learn, and the liberal arts provide the best way of gaining those skills. Simpson students begin preparing for life after graduation as freshmen. They also get special assistance from our counseling and career services office, which helps students explore career options, internships, job shadowing, writing resumes and cover letters and job interviewing.
And speaking of internships, our students have accepted internships in a wide variety of corporations and organizations, including Pella Corporation; Walt Disney World in Buena Vista, Fla.; The Nature Conservancy; Center for Human Rights Education in Atlanta, Ga.; Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, Il.; Iowa Health Systems; Deloitte and Touche, LLP; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Fire Arms; Pioneer Hi-Bred; State of Iowa governor's office; and the Des Moines Symphony.
Do students get an education at Simpson that prepares them for a career?
Absolutely. A Simpson education is based on the best traditions of the liberal arts, meaning our students develop critical thinking skills that prepare them for life-long learning. They also get an excellent foundation in their chosen fields. Simpson graduates are ready to start their professional lives - and prepared to move from one career to another as their goals change. This flexibility is vital. Research shows that today's college graduates change careers two to five times before they retire.
How long does it take Simpson students to graduate?
Despite the national trend, Simpson students continue to be able to graduate in four years, even if they decide to double major. We're proud to say that all Simpson graduates have demonstrated their competency in writing, a foreign language and mathematics.
