Scholarships: No Essays, Interviews or Competitions

During the busy time of visiting colleges, applying for admissions and researching scholarship opportunities, we won't add to your growing list of things to do.  Simpson College believes your academic record speaks for itself.  We won't make you jump through hoops to receive the scholarships you deserve.  No essays, no interviews, no competitions.  Simpson College awards our academic scholarships based on your academic record.  So continue to work hard in the classroom and reap the benefits!

The financial assistance listed below is awarded based on academic merit or talent, not financial need.  Students may be elgible for other need based programs.  New freshmen and transfer students must be accepted for admission to be considered for these awards. Students and parents should realize that these forms of aid will not cover the student's total expenses.

Cowles Fellowship
The Cowles Fellowship is the most prestigious academic award offered by Simpson College. It is awarded only to full-time students entering their freshman year. Candidates must possess extraordinary academic ability and potential as evidenced by their high school performance and success on the American College Test (ACT) and/or the Scholastic Aptitude Test I (SAT I). The quality of classes taken in high school is also a factor in the selection of Cowles Fellows. A candidate must display leadership skills, and he/she must have participated in high school or community activities. Cowles Fellows are selected from students who have been named Presidential Scholars. 

George Washington Carver Fellowship
The Carver Fellowship is named in honor of George Washington Carver, who attended Simpson College.  It is one of the most prestigious academic awards offered by Simpson College.  The Carver Fellowship ranges from 3/4 to full tuition.  Up to 25 full tuition Carver Fellowships will be awarded annually.  This scholarship is awarded to outstanding freshman and transfer students from distinctive and broadly diverse backgrounds, who exhibit potential for leadership, evidence of service and contribution to community and superior academic achievement in secondary school. 

Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship is awarded only to full-time students entering their freshman year. It is awarded to students possessing exceptional academic ability and potential as evidenced by high school performance and success on the American College Test (ACT) and/or Scholastic Aptitude Test I (SAT I).

Honor Scholarship
The Honor Scholarship is awarded only to full-time students. It is awarded to students possessing outstanding academic ability as evidenced by high school performance and success on the American College Test (ACT) and/or Scholastic Aptitude Test I (SAT I).

Mathew Simpson Scholarship
The Matthew Simpson Scholarship is awarded only to full-time students entering Simpson College for the first time. This award is named in recognition of Bishop Matthew Simpson. Eligible candidates must hold membership in a United Methodist Church, possess strong academic ability and potential as evidenced by their high school/previous college performance and their success on the American College Test (ACT) and/or Scholastic Aptitude Test I (SAT I). The student must demonstrate leadership qualities in both the community and church. The final determination of the amount of the award will be made in relationship to other financial assistance received.

Carver Scholarship
The Carver Scholarship is in honor of George Washington Carver who attended Simpson College. It is awarded to outstanding minority students from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. George Washington Carver Scholars are students with high educational goals who have demonstrated leadership qualities in high school, community, church, etc.

Transfer Achievement Scholarship
Outstanding community/junior college students with high academic achievement and significant extracurricular records who have earned an associate in arts degree or 61 transferable semester hours may be eligible for this scholarship. Award amounts vary. To be considered for the Transfer Achievement Scholarship, students must be admitted to Simpson College for full-time enrollment.  

Transfer Honor Scholarship
Exceptional community/junior college students who demonstrate high academic achievement and who plan to seek full-time enrollment at Simpson College may compete for this prestigious award. Applicants must have achieved a minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, earned an associate in arts degree or 61 transferable semester hours and demonstrate varied leadership experience. Award amounts range from $2500 to $4000.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
$7,000 scholarships are awarded to community college students who are  members of Phi Theta Kappa international honor society. Applicants must be seeking full-time enrollment at Simpson College and have achieved a 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. To be considered for this scholarship, students need to submit the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Verification Form

Methodist Junior College Achievement Scholarship
Methodist Junior College Achievement Scholarship:  Outstanding students from Methodist two-year institutions with high academic achievement and significant extracurricular records, who have earned an associate in arts degree or 61 transferable semester hours, may be eligible for this scholarship.  Award amounts vary.  To be considered for the Methodist Junior College Achievement Scholarship, students must be admitted to Simpson College for full-time enrollment.

Methodist Junior College Honor Scholarship
Methodist Junior College Honor Scholarship:  Exceptional students from Methodist two-year institutions who demonstrate high academic achievement and who plan to seek full-time enrollment at Simpson College may compete for this prestigious award.  Applicants must have achieved a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, earned an associates in arts degree or 61 transferable semester hours and demonstrate varied leadership experience.  Award amounts range from $2500 to $4000.  Renewal requirement is a cumulative Simpson GPA of 3.0.
