Leaders in every industry from business to the arts can point to their training as history majors as the starting point for their success. Courses at Simpson provide students with a critical appreciation of the western tradition and an understanding of its political, economic, social and cultural institutions, as well as a survey of selected non-western cultures. Students with this major enter into a variety of fields including politics, law, education and business.

Historiography, a unique senior seminar course, is the capstone for senior history majors. The course is taught by the entire history department faculty.

The department sponsors international travel experiences to the British Isles, Thailand, Ireland and Greece.
