Compentency Requirements for Graduation
A Simpson graduate is expected to write at an advanced level and to show competency in mathematics and foreign language.
- The writing competency program is a two-tiered requirement that begins with a freshman English class. The second part of the writing competency consists of submitting a portfolio of four papers prepared and submitted previously for upper-level courses.
- Math competency is based on standardized test scores or test performance on math proficiency exams. Students not meeting those standards will be required to take additional classes.
- Foreign language competency may be satisfied through three or more years of the same foreign language in high school with a passing grade of C- or higher, through testing or by completing one year of college-level foreign language.
