What is the theory of relativity? How do forensic scientists uncover crime scene mysteries? These are the kinds of questions that will be examined and answered in your chemistry and physics classes. The department offers majors in chemistry, biochemistry and physics and coordinates a dual degree engineering program. A diverse curriculum provides students with an understanding of the chemical and physical nature of the world. Project-based labs, research assignments and seminar classes give students a first-hand appreciation of chemistry and physics as experimental sciences. These majors prepare students for advanced study in graduate or medical school or to enter careers in teaching, forensics, science marketing, sales and research.
-
Simpson’s biochemistry major recently received $248,000 in grants to purchase state-of-the-art lab instrumentation.
-
The Dual Degree Engineering program is offered through three highly rated engineering schools: Iowa State University, the Institute of Technology (University of Minnesota) and Washington University in St. Louis.
-
Recent graduate schools: University of Iowa Medical School, Iowa State University, University of Nebraska, University of Colorado, Drake University's College of Pharmacy and University of Missouri Columbia.
