Simpson's London Program

Simpson's Semester in London 2007

Jim Palmieri, Department of Business Administration and Economics

The five courses being offered include the following:

  • Introduction to British Culture and Society (Cornerstone 7)
  • Art course to be determined (Cornerstone 5)
  • English 290 - Virginia Woolf and The Bloomsbury Group (Cornerstone 4)
  • Economics 290 - Economic Policies in Europe and the United States (Cornerstone 3)
  • Economics 390 – The Immigrant Experience in London

In keeping with the tradition of the Semester in London program, the five classes will stress Cornerstone Studies, specifically in areas 3, 4, 5, and 7.  All of the courses have a British theme, either as a primary focus or as part of a larger European perspective.  Service learning activities are incorporated in this schedule of classes involving immigrant and refugee experiences in London.

Students will have a direct experience with one of the most important urban centers in the world.

Elyse Demaray, Jim Palmieri's wife, has a Ph.D. in English with a minor in Women’s Studies from Indiana University.  She will be one of the faculty teaching in the London Semester and assisting Jim in directing this semester in London experience.  Moreover, Elyse has an impressive background of teaching literature and composition both at Simpson and Iowa State University, where she is a Senior Lecturer.  She has extensive overseas experience, serving several times as a May Term chaperone in Greece, Italy and London.  Her expertise will broaden the diversity of classes offered during the term.
