One hundred and fifty years of extraordinary history.
As we commemorate Simpson College’s Sesquicentennial Anniversary (1860-2010), it only seemed appropriate to commission a book to provide a pictorial “stroll” through Simpson’s rich history. It is an opportunity to marvel at a timeline of our past and anticipate the continued excellence that is sure to come in the years ahead.
Capturing 150 years in one book was not a simple task. Thankfully, Beneath the Whispering Maples, written by Joe Walt provided a wonderful outline for much of the content in this book. It simply could not have been possible without Joe’s voice. Many of the pictures included in this book are courtesy of the Simpson College archives.
It was never intended for this publication to serve as a comprehensive history of Simpson College, but rather as a walk through time. With a past as rich as ours, I’m confident you will enjoy the stories, photographs and memories of your own as you flip through its pages.
As Joe wrote in his book, starting up a private academy in a frontier town was purely an act of faith. So take a walk through the past 150 years to see how far we’ve come, and celebrate a future of continued success!
